Skip the Tape Measure Entirely

While tape measurements work, CattleWeight AI uses your phone's LiDAR camera to estimate weight in just 15 seconds with ±3% accuracy. No measuring tape. No moving animals to handling systems. No labor-intensive setup. Just walk up to any animal in the field and scan.

How to Measure Your Cattle
Follow these steps for accurate measurements
Cattle measurement guide showing heart girth and body length

1. Heart Girth (Circumference)

Measure around the chest, just behind the front legs and over the top of the shoulders. The tape should be snug but not tight. Measure in centimeters.

Tip: Make sure the animal is standing square and calm for the most accurate measurement.

2. Body Length

Measure from the point of the shoulder (where neck meets shoulder) to the pin bone (rear point of hip). Keep the tape along the side of the animal. Measure in centimeters.

Tip: The animal should have its head in a natural position, not raised or lowered.

About Cattle Weight Estimation

Understanding the methods and accuracy of weight calculations

Why Estimate Weight?

Health Monitoring

Check weak animals weekly to track recovery and decide when treatment is needed - without moving them to scales

Sales Timing

Know when calves hit target weight (e.g., 200 kg) and sell at optimal market conditions - check them right in the pasture

Breeding Selection

Compare offspring weights at specific ages (3 months, 6 months) to identify top performers for your breeding program

Culling Decisions

Assess market value of cull cows and bulls to determine the best moment to sell based on actual weight data

Medication Dosing

Ensure accurate drug administration based on current weight

Accuracy Comparison

Professional Scales: ±1% accuracy (gold standard)

LiDAR Technology (CattleWeight AI): ±3% accuracy

No tape needed, 15-second scan

Tape Measurements: ±5-8% accuracy (this calculator)

Visual Estimation: ±15-25% accuracy

Tips for Best Results
  • Measure when the animal is calm and standing square
  • Use a flexible measuring tape designed for livestock
  • Take measurements at the same time of day
  • Measure multiple times and average the results
  • Keep the tape level and snug but not tight
  • Account for pregnancy, bloating, or recent feeding
